Tacumshane Windmill 17

Erected in 1846 and in daily use until 1936, it is one of
Ireland’s last intact windmills.


Our Lady’s Island, Carne. With the ruins of a Norman Castle built in 1237 and a 15th Century Augustinian Priory, is a national pilgrimage venue. Lady’s Island Lake, a pleasant bicycle journey away, with Ireland’s largest breeding tern colony, is a Special Protection Area and a Refuge for Fauna.

Bird sanctuary situated off the picturesque

village of Kilmore Quay. Grey and common seals,
